Why Grow Baby Greens?

Baby greens aren’t just delicious; they’re nutritional powerhouses! These young, tender greens are packed with vitamins A, C, and K, along with essential minerals like iron, calcium, and magnesium. Because they’re harvested young, they have a milder flavor than mature greens, making them perfect for a variety of dishes.

Popular Baby Greens to Grow

You can grow a variety of baby greens in your Tower Garden, including:

  • Lettuce varieties (romaine, butterhead, oak leaf, and more)

  • Spinach – Rich in iron and perfect for salads or cooking

  • Kale – A nutrient-dense superfood with a mild taste when young

  • Swiss chard – Vibrant colors and a mild, earthy flavor

  • Mustard greens – Add a peppery kick to your dishes

Seeding & Growing Baby Greens in Your Tower Garden

Growing baby greens in a Tower Garden is easy, especially with the Baby Greens Extension or Combo Extension, but they can also be grown in the regular growing pots. Here’s how to get started:

  1. Choose Your Seeds – Pick your favorite baby greens or create a custom mix.

  2. Soak & Germinate – Pre-soak rockwool for 20 minutes, then place it in a shallow tray or baking dish.

  3. Plant in Rockwool – Place approximately 20 seeds in and on the rockwool cube. You can use a spare piece of rockwool to fill the hole if you like. Do not water the baby green seedlings from the top as you'll wash away the seeds or cause them to rot if they are too wet.  Add plain water to the tray each day and let the rockwool cubes soak up the water.

  4. Transplant to the Tower Garden – After approximately a week they will be ready for the Tower Garden. They will generally be planted near the top and they can be planted in either the regular or baby green growing pots.

  5. Water & Nutrients – Maintain proper pH levels and nutrient balance for optimal growth.

  6. Provide Light – If indoors, use LED grow lights for at least 14 hours to ensure strong, healthy greens. If growing outside ensure they have at least 5 hours of direct sunlight.

Harvesting Baby Greens

Baby greens are typically ready for harvest in 2-4 weeks. To harvest:

  • Cut and Come Again – Use scissors to snip leaves about an inch above the base, allowing regrowth for multiple harvests.

  • Full Harvest – Cut all the greens at once for a larger batch.
