8 Tips to Grow Your Tower Garden This Winter
Winter is Coming! But Your Tower Garden Doesn’t Have to Hibernate! 🌱❄️
Most of the country barely got a taste of fall before the Polar Vortex roared in, turning everything into a frozen wonderland. Florida’s feeling a little cooler than usual, but hey—northern Wisconsin got buried under 50+ inches of snow in just four days! Crazy, right? Luckily, your Tower Garden can thrive all winter long with a few simple tricks. Yes, even when it’s chilly out, you can still harvest fresh, clean, local produce! Here’s how to keep those greens going strong.
1. Keep Your Reservoir Full
Think of your reservoir like a thermos—it holds onto heat. A full 20-gallon reservoir will stay warmer way longer than a half-full one. Your plants will thank you for that toasty water on frosty nights!
2. Use a Dolly or Mat Under Your Tower
Ever stood barefoot on concrete in winter? Brrrr! Cold transfers fast, and if your Tower Garden’s reservoir sits directly on concrete or a wooden deck, it’ll chill your water quickly. A dolly or thick rubber mat underneath creates a barrier and keeps things cozy.
3. Find the Sunniest Spot 🌞
Winter days are shorter, and the sun’s not as intense. Place your Tower in the sunniest area possible to help your plants soak up every precious ray. More sunlight = faster growth!
4. Boost with Tower Tonic at Full Strength
In summer, you might cut back on minerals, but not now! In the colder months, go back to the regular dose: 20ml of A and 20ml of B per gallon of water. Want to get fancy? Use a TDS meter to keep an eye on Total Dissolved Solids.
5. Adjust Your Timer for Cold Nights
If the temperature drops below 40°F, set your timer to run continuously during those cold hours. Moving water stays warmer and prevents freezing. Double-check your timer settings to keep things running smoothly.
6. Add a Submersible Heater 🔥
When temps dip below 50°F, a submersible heater can save the day. Set it to 68°F and let it do its thing. If the heater’s too long for the reservoir, stick it at an angle with the suction feet on the side. Instant warmth for your plant babies!
7. Cover Up on Frosty Nights
A frost cloth is your Tower Garden’s best friend when the temps drop. Just make sure it doesn’t touch the crops directly—that can lead to frostburn. Want to get serious? Try a small pop-up greenhouse for extra protection. Add a submersible heater or a small space heater (carefully!) to extend your growing season even further.

8. Use Grow Lights for Indoor Gardening 💡
Who says you can’t grow fresh veggies in the middle of winter? Bring your Tower Garden indoors and pair it with grow lights. There are tons of options out there, but the Tower Garden LED grow light kit is a game-changer. Set it up in your house, garage, or office, and enjoy year-round produce.

9. Use a Greenhouse 💡
In some part of the country you may need to use a greenhouse. Pair this with a submersible heater and/or space heater to take the chill off and you'll be able to grow all winter. Be sure to select crops that do well in the cold!
