🔎 Before You Start: Check These First

When several plants start struggling at the same time, there's usually something they have in common. Before treating an individual plant, take a quick look at the basics:

  • Is the pump running and is water reaching the roots?
  • What water are you using? City, well, filtered or softened?
  • Was the Mineral Blend mixed correctly?
  • Is the pH between 5.5 and 6.5?
  • Are the plants getting enough light?
  • Has the weather changed? Think extreme heat, cold, wind or heavy rain.

One unhappy plant may be an individual plant problem. Ten unhappy plants at the same time? Start looking for the thing they all share.

🌿 Plant & Leaf Problems

Start here if the leaves are changing color, plants are drooping or something just doesn't look right with the growth.

💛 My Leaves Are Turning Yellow

Yellow leaves can have several causes, including nutrient problems, water quality, pH, lighting and normal aging. Don't automatically reach for more Mineral Blend.

🥀 My Plants Are Wilting

Plants suddenly drooping? Check the reservoir, pump, timer, water quality, nutrient strength and water flow before assuming the plant itself is the problem.

🌿 Plants Look Unhealthy After Adding Nutrients

If nutrients are present but your plants still look deficient—or things became worse after adding more—nutrient lockout may be the real problem.

🌱 Seedling Problems

Young seedlings can react quickly when something changes. Light, water, nutrients, heat and even the conditions immediately after transplanting can make a big difference.

🥀 Seedlings Wilted After Transplanting

Healthy seedlings looked great before planting but started drooping afterward? The timing is a clue. Check what changed when they went into the Tower.

🌱 My Seedlings Are Weak or Stretched

Long, thin seedlings are usually reaching for light. Getting the lighting right immediately after germination helps produce stronger, more compact plants.

🌰 My Seeds Didn't Germinate

No sprouts? Germination problems can come down to moisture, temperature, seed depth, seed age or simply giving a slow variety a little more time.

💧 Water & Nutrient Problems

Your plants share the same reservoir, so water and nutrient problems often affect several plants at once. If lots of different crops suddenly look unhappy, this is a very good place to investigate.

🚰 Could My Tap Water Be the Problem?

Municipal water may contain chlorine or chloramine, while sodium-softened water can create a different set of problems. Find out what water should go into your Tower.

Check Your Water →

🧪 Chlorine or Chloramine?

Letting tap water sit may help with chlorine, but chloramine is much more persistent. Learn why knowing what your municipality uses matters.

🌿 Am I Using Too Much—or Too Little—Nutrient?

More isn't better. Learn how to mix Tower Garden Mineral Blend, adjust strength for young plants and keep the reservoir from becoming overly concentrated.

🔒 Could It Be Nutrient Lockout?

Your reservoir can contain plenty of nutrients while the plants are unable to use them. Learn what causes nutrient lockout and why adding more nutrients can make matters worse.

🟢 There's Green Stuff on My Tower or Rockwool

Green growth around the rockwool, net pots or Tower is usually algae. It's common anywhere light, moisture and nutrients meet.

🐛 Pests & Diseases

Spots, fuzzy coatings, sticky leaves or tiny bugs? Identify what you're dealing with before you start spraying. The right treatment depends on the actual problem.

🐜 Tiny Bugs Are Clustering on New Growth

Check tender stems and the undersides of leaves. Aphids often gather in groups and can multiply quickly if they're not caught early.

🌫️ Leaves Have a White Powdery Coating

A dusty or flour-like coating on leaves may be powdery mildew. Learn what encourages it and what to do when you spot it.

🐛 I Found Bugs, but I'm Not Sure What They Are

Don't treat every pest the same way. Start with identification, check neighboring plants and then choose the least disruptive treatment that fits the pest.

🔧 Pump & Water-Flow Problems

If plants are wilting quickly or the Tower suddenly sounds different, check the water flow. A Tower full of plants can become unhappy very quickly when the roots stop getting water.

💦 Water Isn't Reaching the Plants

Check the reservoir level, electrical supply, timer, pump, hose and roots. Work through the simple possibilities before assuming the pump has failed.

Troubleshoot Water Flow →

🧽 The Pump Needs Cleaning

Roots and debris can collect around the pump over time. A quick monthly check takes very little time and can help keep water moving properly.

🛠️ Time for General Maintenance?

Reservoir care, pump checks and periodic cleaning can prevent many problems before your plants start showing symptoms.

🕵️ Still Not Sure? Look for the Pattern

One of the fastest ways to troubleshoot a Tower Garden is to stop looking only at the individual plant and look at what the struggling plants have in common.

If one plant is struggling while everything around it looks great, start with that plant. Check that water is reaching its roots and look closely for pests, disease or physical damage.

If several different plants start struggling at about the same time, think bigger: water source, nutrient strength, pH, pump operation, light, temperature or a recent weather change.

And always ask yourself one very useful question: What changed just before the problem started? That's often where you'll find the answer.
