    Description

Chives are a classic culinary herb valued for their mild onion flavor and versatility in the kitchen. Interestingly, Allium schoenoprasum is the only Allium species native to both the New and Old Worlds, and it has been cultivated in Europe since the Middle Ages, with culinary use dating back thousands of years.

The slender green stems are commonly chopped and used to add fresh flavor to soups, potatoes, eggs, fish, and sauces. Chives are perhaps most famous as a garnish for baked potatoes topped with butter and sour cream, but they are equally delicious in salads, dips, and herb blends. The stems and unopened flower buds can be used fresh or dried.

Chives are long-lived, hardy perennials that are easy to grow in gardens, containers, or hydroponic systems. They are also believed to help repel certain garden pests, making them a useful companion plant in the garden. 🌿

    Planting Instructions

If the scrapes (stalks) start looking old, simply cut them back. During the growing season, the plants will continually regrow. Use fresh by harvesting or dry and enjoy as a garnish.

Plant 20+ seeds per rockwool cube.
